Bulk Communication Document Considerations

The following information should be considered before using the Bulk Communication option to print communication documents for patrons:

Printing devices available in the Printers menu are based on devices available to the “Run-as” user on the ResCenter server.

CBORD recommends setting up a network printer and defining it on the ResCenter server to allow it to be displayed in the Printers menu.

The printer should be physically accessible to anyone needing to access the printed documents after the Print as Document option is used.

Each document to be printed is first generated as a .pdf file. A user can access the document file and print it from another location, if necessary. Document files are stored on the ResCenter server in the following location:

C:\inetpub\wwwroot\ResCenter\UIAdminWeb\Communications\Output

When the Bulk Communication process for Printed Documents begins, any previous Bulk Communication document files older than seven days will automatically be deleted from the ResCenter server. This process does not remove the Document communication record from a patron’s profile—it only deletes the temporary document files from the database.

After documents are printed, records of the process are recorded in the Transaction Log. When viewing the Transaction Log grid, the TransLog.Transaction_Type column indicates the action taken during the Bulk Communication process, and the TransLog.Value column includes the outcome or more details about the action.
